Bottle or glass? Here's the buzz on 15 mighty independent wineries in Denver

Wine is believed to have been in existence since about 4,000 B.C.

Humans are social beings, and few substances bring people together better than wine. Perhaps it's the intricate balance of flavors melded together, or maybe it's the seemingly magical way that it helps individuals let loose and converse freely. Whatever the case may be, we, as a species, love our wine.

Wine is referenced in many old works of literature and is believed to have been in existence since about 4,000 B.C. It has remained an integral part of the world since then, though the process of winemaking has evolved a great deal since its inception.

In the late 19th century, many French grapevines suffered disease and one of the only ways to save the vines was to graft American vines to the French ones. Still, though, many winemakers took their art to other corners of the world, including the U.S. and Chile, where the climate was mild and pests were not a threat. Today, the U.S. has many wine-producing regions, with some of the most well-known being in California. But Denver has its own fair share of wineries as well.

If you're in the mood for a locally produced drink or are looking for the perfect day trip or weekend activity, here are 15 mighty independent wineries in Denver, Colorado.
