Few food categories are as well-loved in America as desserts and pastries. In fact, these sweet treats are so engrained in our culture that you may be hard-pressed to find a social event that doesn't include some sort of sweet, sticky, gooey goodness, which translates to an average consumption of 66 pounds of sugar per American, per year, according to the University of California in San Francisco.

Since then donuts have become a favorite for offices, school, holiday celebrations and more.

Northwest Denver is home to many fine restaurants, all with varying flavors and specialties. And whether you're simply visiting for the week or walking around your hometown, here are 15 mighty independent donut shops in Denver worth trying.
